VOLCANOES OF PATAGONIA

Southern Chile & Argentina

VILLARRICA
Glaciated slopes make the ascent relatively easy in comparison to cinder slopes on the lower flanks of the volcano. Villarrica is the most active volcano of Chile. A lava lake is commonly present within the volcano summit, sending columns of steam skyward.

Osorno

Nicknamed Fuji of the Andes, the perfect cone of the Osorno volcano, is a favourite of the climbers and the skiers.
Puntiagudo

An obelisk of hardened lava towers dramatically over the landscape above Puntiagudo precipitous slopes. The slopes are corrugated by the relentless action of the glaciers

Llaima

Llaima volcano in Southern Chile has erupted at intervals of less than two years since 1990. A small gas plume rises over the summit crater of Llaima during its brief March/April 2003 eruption.
Lanin

Extensively glaciated Lanin volcano rising on the Chile/Argentina border is one of the South America`s truly exhausted volcanoes.

Burney

The stark beauty of the rugged Burney volcano with impressive cliffs of black lava and resident glaciers masks a turbulent volcanic past. Burney is one of the southernmost volcanoes located near Tierra del Fuego in extreme south Chile.
Corcovado

The pointy dome of the Corcovado volcano towers dramatically over the Pacific Ocean surface.
